What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a natural health care that focuses on the spine and the nervous system.
The nervous system comprises of the brain, spinal cord and the nerves that help control and coordinate all the functions of the body. The spine is there to protect the spinal cord and allow our body to move freely.
As we live our lives, we face different stresses. Physical, chemical or emotional stress to name a few. These stress act on the function of our body and the nervous system, especially the spine. This dysfunction in the spine and the nervous system is what chiropractors call “vertebral subluxation”.
Chiropractors analyse the spine, locate these subluxations in the spine and correct it through an adjustment.
Chiropractors can help anyone from babies to elderly to improve their health and function of the body. For further information please visit https://www.chiropractic.org.nz/.
Chiropractic - What to Expect
The primary treatment method for Chiropractors in Natural Healthcare Clinic is known as a “chiropractic adjustment.” This method has the purpose of restoring joint mobility and correction of subluxation by manually applying a controlled force into spine or extremities that have become hypomobile and/or is subluxated.
This therapy is performed normally after the adjustment, to separate vertebrae and allowing the blood flow to the discs, stretches muscles and ligaments. It also helps to increase the mobility of the spine and the restoration of normal range of motion of the spine.
This method of therapy helps to reduce muscle spasms and relaxes the hyperactive muscles. It involves using hands to palpate and locate the underlying tight bands or knots of muscle fibres. Then a sustained pressure is applied to relax it. Myofascial release technique is an addition of movement of the affected muscles added while applying the sustained pressure.
Small electrical currents are sent through the affected area of the patient’s injury. This modality can help to decrease in pain, reduce muscle spasm, increase local blood circulation and enhance the healing process.
Chiropractors analyse X-rays in order to accurately diagnose and rule out contraindications to treatment(s). We go over the x-ray with a patient thoroughly to help them fully understand their condition. Not all patients are required to take an x-ray, but if required, we directly send them to the nearest linked, x-ray facility.
FAQ
How does chiropractic adjustment work?
It is based on the fact that our body is controlled by the nervous system. The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The brain is protected by the skull, and the spinal cord and nerve roots are covered and protected by the 24 moveable vertebrae, together aka spine. From physical, emotional and even chemical stress can cause these moveable vertebrae to misalign, and that can affect the function of the nervous system by putting pressure on the nerves (Vertebral Subluxation).
Chiropractors thoroughly scan the spine and detect the vertebral subluxation, and corrects them to restore the function of the spine and the nervous system.
